A veterinary ophthalmologist is a highly trained veterinarian who has completed years of specialised education and successfully passed rigorous written, practical, and oral examinations to achieve specialist certification.
At Eye Clinic for Animals, all of our ophthalmologists have trained through the prestigious program of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO), globally recognized as the leading standard in the field.
There are only around 220 Board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists in the world.
While your veterinarian is skilled in treating many eye issues, certain conditions require specialised care. Just as a human ophthalmologist has more expertise than an optometrist, a veterinary ophthalmologist focuses exclusively on animal eye health. This makes them uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat more complex eye diseases and conditions in animals.
Our veterinary eye specialists offer comprehensive care, from routine eye exams and diagnosis of conditions to performing both simple and complex surgeries on your pet.
A first-time consultation and eye examination for your pet typically takes 15 to 30 minutes and involves the use of advanced diagnostic equipment. Additional tests may be required depending on the condition.
Most exams can be done without sedation or heavy restraint. However, if your pet is anxious or reactive, we may need to use sedation or a muzzle for their comfort and safety.
We offer consultations and perform surgeries at both of our Sydney locations in Artarmon and Yagoona. Additionally, we consult during our regular visits to Newcastle, the South Coast, Central Highlands, Bathurst, and service the ACT as frequently as possible.
Consultations are by appointment only, and we kindly ask that you arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time to complete any necessary clerical details prior to your consultation.
Payment
All fees are payable at the time of your consultation, or for surgeries, at the time of discharge from the hospital. We accept payments via Direct Deposit (EFT), Debit Card, Mastercard, Visa, and Afterpay. Please note, we do not accept American Express.
While we do accept cash payments, we do not carry change, so please bring the exact amount if paying in cash.
After your consultation, we will send a detailed report of our findings and treatment recommendations to your local vet. If you need additional information, you can contact one of our specialists by phone. While it may not always be possible to speak with them directly—since they may be in consultations or surgery—our ophthalmology nurses or administration team are often able to assist.
We aim to return all calls within 24 hours. If the matter is urgent, please inform our staff right away.
You can easily book online with ECA. If you're an existing client, please use the details already registered in our system (such as your surname and your pet's name).
